Family rides bikes down the Suwannee River Greenway

Branford

Suwannee River Greenway at Branford

The Greenway is a 29-mile asphalt rail-trail that partially follows a former CSX Railroad corridor. This is a wonderful place to ride a bike, rollerblade, or walk. The trail goes from the intersection of US 129 & CR 248 to the Ichetucknee River at US 27/SR20. Two trailheads—one at Ivey Memorial Park and one in Branford—lie in a bend along the western half of the trail. Ivey Memorial Park has the only public restroom and water fountain, so you may want to start your trip here. Ivey Memorial Park is on the other side of US Highway 27, just east of the Suwannee River. If you want to go to the Branford trailhead, take US Highway 27 north to US Highway 129, turn north then take the first left on Trail Street/Owens Avenue. Parking is at the end of the road.

The route starts from Branford by running parallel, but some distance back, to U.S. Highway 129 for approximately 2.5 miles before reaching its northern end. This section of the trail is nicely shaded by a mature tree canopy. If you continue west just over one mile along lightly traveled County Road 248, you will reach Little River Springs County Park. Cool off with a dip in the springs at this slice of old Florida on the Suwannee. This is a pet-friendly trail but they must be kept leashed and have current vaccination records for inspection.
